More on the Roanoke vet

August 6, 2007

Turns out Sharon Coleman, the veterinarian from Roanoke, actually has the most consent orders on file for the area in which she works, according to The Roanoke Times.

“Sharon Coleman has 21 violations on record for her 21-year career caring for animals.”

Roanoke vet gets slap on hand

July 4, 2007

Sharon Coleman has messed up more than once. The Roanoke-based veterinarian received a fine in 1993 for practicing medicine at North Roanoke Veterinary Hospital without possessing a valid license to operate that facility. She was fined $250.

Coleman was fined $400 in 1995 for giving a cat anesthesia without performing a full physical examination. The cat died. Coleman also misdiagnosed a cat for conjunctivitis, when, in fact, the cat had an 80 percent burn of its cornea.

Oh, there is more…

April 1997: Coleman let unlicensed workers perform surgical procedures of different animals with the same instruments between sterilizations. Coleman put dead animals directly into the dumpsters and kept poor records. These were a $7,000 fine and Coleman was subject to surprise inspections. Her license was  suspended but supposedly she got it back (keep reading.)

September 1997: She took x-rays of her son at her office and kept a woman’s pet that she was asked to euthanize- a $500 fine. Keeping the cat wasn’t unheard of, but keeping the money to euthanize it was.

Coleman stayed clean until 2006 when she misdiagnosed a dog and then gave toxic medicine to a guinea pig that killed the little guy. In June she was slapped with a $2,000 fine and forced to take some classes on exotic pet treatment.

When will she learn?
